Lethbridge , Alberta
Application Nos.
2005-0448-2 and 2005-0599-3

Applications by Golden West Broadcasting Ltd. (Golden West) to:

a)       acquire the assets of the radio programming undertaking CJTS-FM, an English-language specialty FM radio station at Lethbridge, from Spirit Broadcasting Ltd. (Spirit); and

b)       to amend the licence by changing the frequency from 97.1 MHz (channel 246LP) to 98.1 MHz (channel 251B) and to change the authorized contours by increasing the effective radiated power from 50 watts to 20,000 watts, by increasing the antenna height and by relocating the transmitter (non-directional antenna/antenna height 174.3 metres).

The applications are non-severable.

The value of the transaction is estimated at $225,000. No tangible benefits have been proposed by the applicant.

The applicant is requesting a licence to continue the operation of this undertaking upon surrender of the current licence issued to Spirit, and confirms that it would adhere to the conditions of licence currently in place for CJTS-FM as set out in Decision CRTC 2000-743.

The Commission notes that the authorized contours of the station will increase significantly as a result of the technical changes. The Commission also notes that the increase in power will result in a change of CJTS-FM status from a low power unprotected service to a Class B protected service.
