This Statement explains the purpose and use of personal information collected.
The collection and use of personal information, when submitting an application to the CRTC to obtain certification for a Canadian television production, is authorized by the Broadcasting Act, the Telecommunications Act and the CRTC Rules of Procedure. The Commission collects uses and discloses personal information in accordance with the federal Privacy Act.
We will use the personal information you provided to communicate with you and to validate the information you provided in your Canadian Program Certification application form. The personal information collected through this system will be retained for a maximum of 7 years and will be processed by the Information and Technology Management Directorate at the CRTC.
The Privacy Act states that you have the right to access your personal information and request changes to incorrect information. To access your personal information, notify us about incorrect information, or to withdraw your participation after submitting your information, contact our office by using our electronic form or by calling (819) 997-0313 or toll-free 1-877-249-2782. It will, however, remain in the cookie placed on your computer. A cookie is a small text file that the Commission's website places on your computer. The first time you enter information into the Cover Page, you will need to enter all of the required information. The cookie retains, on your computer, any information that you enter into the Cover Page so that the next time you use the same computer to fill in the Cover Page, the cookie will enter your information on the form for you. You can delete the cookies from your computer at any time. If you do delete your cookies, you will need to re-enter all of your information the next time you fill in the Cover Page.

Following are several steps that you can take to help ensure your own privacy:
- Provide only the personal information that is required.
- Do not share your username and password with anyone.
- Memorize your password instead of writing it down.
- Ensure your password is meaningful to you but not to others.
Also, you can maximize security by making sure that you:
- Do not use your name as your username.
- Do not use personal numbers like birth or anniversary dates, partial telephone numbers, family names or the names of pets.
- Change your password every 3 to 6 months.
- Do not leave your computer unattended after you have logged in.
- Close your browser when you are finished with your session.
- If you are using a shared computer, make sure you clear the cache after you are finished.
In order to maintain the security of this site, the CRTC employs software programs to monitor network traffic, to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or to otherwise cause damage. The software receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of computers that have contacted our Website, the date and time of the visit and the pages visited. We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our site unless an attempt to damage our site has been detected.
