Data Collection - Annual return for radio and television programming undertakings

This survey is to be completed by all Radio and TV Undertakings in Canada.

For the collection of data for the period ended 31 August, certain entities have been asked to submit their data on-line using the Commission’s web-based Data Collection System (DCS). Such entities have been contacted directly and have not been sent a paper-based survey form. As in other years, all other entities are required to complete the paper-based survey forms.


Authority

The Radio and TV information filed using DCS is submitted under the authority of both the Broadcasting Information Regulations, 1993 and the Statistics Act. Full details of these administrative changes can be found in Broadcasting Circular CRTC 2007-7.

Significant changes

Form 1210

  • Television Station Financial Summary has been amended to reflect LPIF funding and government grant received.

Form1290

  • LPIF Annual Report Form is a new form added to the Commercial Television survey to capture amount received from the Local Programming Improvement Fund and where monies were spent to improve local programming.

Form 1230

  • Television - Direct Operating Expenses - Programming and Production, has been reformatted to separate Canadian and Non-Canadian programming costs. Also, ‘Canadian Media Fund Credit’ is no longer included in the Total Canadian Programming Expenses.

Form 1240

  • Television – Direct Operating Expenses, has been reformatted to reconcile to Form 1210, Financial Summary.  Total Programming Expenses – Canadian and non-Canadian from Form 1230 is now reported on Form 1240 as well to enable reconciliation.
