Commissioner, Alberta and Northwest Territories

Peter Menzies

PETER MENZIES was appointed as Regional Commissioner for Alberta and Northwest Territories, effective June 5, 2009.

Mr. Menzies has 30 years of media experience as a journalist, commentator, executive and consultant. Over the course of a wide-ranging career, he notably served as Publisher, Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Page Editor at the Calgary Herald. He has worked and managed media operations in both the Alberta Legislative and Parliamentary press galleries. He has also won a number of national and international awards for his writing and other work, including a National Newspaper Award. Previously, he worked for the Calgary Sun and has lived, worked and studied on Canada’s East and West Coasts. Mr. Menzies has served on numerous volunteer boards in Calgary, notably as a director of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, the Calgary Opera Association, the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts and Theatre Calgary.

His term ends on June 4, 2014.
