John Traversy

Photo: John Traversy JOHN TRAVERSY was appointed Secretary General of the Commission on October 20, 2011.

Having joined the Commission in 1988, Mr. Traversy possesses an extensive knowledge of the communications industry. As Executive Director of Telecommunications from 2007 to 2011, he implemented measures to streamline regulation, improve Canada’s 911 public safety systems and encourage competition in telecommunications markets. He previously held the position of Director General of Telecommunications Policy, Consumer Affairs and Telemarketing. Mr. Traversy also spent nearly two decades working in the Broadcasting Sector. Among other roles, he served as Director of Strategic Research and Economic Analysis from 1998 to 2006, leading a team that monitored issues, trends and developments in the broadcasting industry.

Mr. Traversy holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Honours) from Carleton University.
