Decision

Ottawa, 29 August 1996
Decision CRTC 96-555
Martin Rosenthal
Toronto and Cobourg, Ontario- 950973800
Licence renewal for CFMX-FM-1 and CFMX-FM
Following Public Notice CRTC 1996-98 dated 12 July 1996, the Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking consisting of CFMX-FM-1 Toronto and CFMX-FM Cobourg, from 1 September 1996 to 31 August 2003, subject to the conditions in effect under the current licence, as well as to those conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.
It is a condition of licence that the licensee devote, in each broadcast week, 10% or more of its musical selections from content category 2 to Canadian selections and schedule these Canadian selections in a reasonable manner throughout each broadcast day.
The Commission reaffirms the particular importance it attaches to the development of Canadian talent and is satisfied with the annual budgets and the initiatives proposed by the licensee in this respect. It encourages the licensee, during the new licence term, to continue its efforts towards the support, development and on-air exposure of local and regional talent.
In Public Notice CRTC 1992-59 dated 1 September 1992 and entitled "Imple-mentation of an Employment Equity Policy", the Commission announced that the employment equity practices of broadcasters would be subject to examination by the Commission. In this regard, the Commission encourages the licensee to consider employment equity issues in its hiring practices and in all other aspects of its management of human resources.
The Commission acknowledges an intervention opposing this licence renewal application.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
