Decision

Ottawa, 5 December 1996
Decision CRTC 96-781
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Sudbury/Haileybury, Ontario - 952689800
Licence amendment for CBON-FM
Following Public Notice CRTC 1996-133 dated 3 October 1996, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CBON-FM Sudbury (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at Haileybury, operating on frequency 99.7 MHz (channel 259A) with an effective radiated power of 780 watts.
This region is currently served by CKVM Ville-Marie, Quebec, a CBC affiliate which distributes the programming of CBF Montréal, received via satellite.
The CBC has advised that the transmitter will be used to distribute the programming service of the CBC French-language Radio (AM) network as well as local programming originating from CBON-FM Sudbury to the Haileybury, New Liskeard and Cobalt region.
The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority will only be granted, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Industry that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
