Public Notice

Ottawa, 3 October 1996
Public Notice CRTC 1996-133
1146129 Ontario Inc.
The Commission has received the following applications:
ONTARIO REGION
1.  SUDBURY/HAILEYBURY, SUDBURY/KIRKLAND LAKE, Ontario
Applications (952689800, 952690600) by the CANADIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION to amend the broadcasting licence of the (radio) programming undertaking CBON-FM Sudbury, by adding transmitters:
- At Haileybury operating on a frequency of 99.7 MHz (channel 259A) with an effective radiated power of 780 watts; and
- At Kirkland Lake operating on a frequency of 93.7 MHz (channel 229A) with an effective radiated power of 2650 watts.
Subject to the approval by the Commission, the Corporation undertakes to cease operation of the AM transmitter CBON-1 Kirkland Lake within twelve months, following implementation of the proposed transmitter at Kirkland Lake.
The population in Haileybury, New Liskeard and Cobalt region will receive the entire CBC French-language radio (AM) network and a certain number of hours of local programming from Sudbury. Presently this area is receiving such service from CKVM Ville-Marie, Quebec, a CBC affililate, which distributes the programming service originating from CBF Montréal via satellite.
The proposed transmitters will provide the CBC French-language radio (AM) network service to many francophones not currently receiving this service, and will improve the quality of service at Kirkland Lake.
