Decision

Ottawa, 5 September 1997
Decision CRTC 97-541
Global Television Network Quebec Limited Partnership (formerly TVA CanWest Limited Partnership)
Québec and Montréal, Quebec - 199705513 - 199705993
Changes in the technical parameters for CKMI-TV
1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1997-100 dated 24 July 1997, the Commission approves the applications by Global Television Network Quebec Limited Partnership (Global), (formerly TVA CanWest Limited Partnership) (TVA Canwest) to amend the broadcasting licence for CKMI-TV Québec by:
- changing the channel and the effective radiated power for the distribution of CKMI-TV, from channel 5 with an effective radiated power of 13,850 watts, to channel 20C with an effective radiated power of 20,200 watts; and
- changing the channel and the effective radiated power of CKMI-TV's transmitter at Montréal, from channel 67B with an effective radiated power of 4,980 watts, to channel 46B with an effective radiated power of 4,850 watts.
2. The Commission hereby authorizes the licensee to operate the undertaking on the basis of the contours and particulars resulting from the above-mentioned changes.
3. Global submitted these applications in compliance with Decision CRTC 97-85 dated 27 February 1997 approving TVA CanWest's application to acquire the assets of CKMI-TV from Télé-Métropole inc. In that decision, the Commission also approved CKMI-TV's disaffiliation from the CBC English-language television network. The Commission stated that the approvals granted in that decision:
are subject to the condition precedent that a CBC English-language service be otherwise provided at Québec prior to, or concurrently with, the implementation of the said approvals.
4. To facilitate the establishment of a CBC English-language television service at Québec, Global and the CBC have agreed that CBC's service will be located on channel 5 and that CKMI-TV will move to channel 20.
5. In a related decision released today (Decision CRTC 97-540), the Commission has approved an application by the CBC to amend the licence of CBMT Montréal by adding a transmitter at Québec operating on channel 5 with an effective radiated power of 13,850 watts.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
