Decision

Ottawa, 30 January 1998

Decision CRTC 98-17

Canadian Satellite Communications Inc. (Cancom)

Across Canada - 199704846

Addition of KSTP (ABC) and WFTC (FOX)

1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1997-102 dated 25 July 1997, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence to carry on a multiple channel television and radio broadcasting relay distribution undertaking by adding KSTP (ABC) and WFTC (FOX) Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the list of signals that Cancom is authorized to distribute.

2. As part of its application, Cancom requested that the Minneapolis signals be added to the List of Part 2 Eligible Satellite Services (Section A) and the List of Part 3 Eligible Satellite Services.

3. Currently, Cancom distributes the Minneapolis signals KARE-TV (NBC) and WCCO-TV (CBS). In support of its application, Cancom stated that the Minneapolis ABC and FOX affiliate services would be attractive primarily to cable operators in Western Canada that currently distribute ABC or FOX network signals originating in an Eastern time zone. Cancom added that these signals would complete Cancom's offering of U.S. network signals originating in the Central time zone.

4. In Public Notice CRTC 1998-7 of today's date entitled Revised Lists of Eligible Satellite Services, the Commission has amended the lists to reflect the approval granted herein.

5. The Commission notes that there were no interventions submitted with respect to this application.

This decision is to be appended to the licence.

Laura M. Talbot-Allan
Secretary General
