Decision

Ottawa, 14 October 1999
Decision CRTC 99-465
Rogers Ottawa Limited/Limitée
Ottawa West, part of Ottawa, part of Nepean, Kanata, parts of the Townships of March and Goulbourn, Almonte and Carleton Place, Ontario - 199907937
Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 1999-139
dated 24 August 1999
Relief from the requirement to carry the Smiths Falls transmitter of CKWS-TV
1. The Commission approves the application by Rogers Ottawa Limited/Limitée (Rogers) for a condition of licence allowing it to carry only one local CBC television service, CBOT Ottawa, as part of its basic service.
2. The licensee is relieved, by condition of licence, of the requirement of section 17(1)(c) of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations to distribute the signal of the Smiths Falls transmitter of CKWS-TV Kingston.
3. In approving this application, the Commission has taken into consideration that most of CKWS-TV's programming duplicates that offered by CBOT. The Commission has also noted Rogers' argument that it does not have sufficient channel capacity to carry two CBC television services at this time.
This decision is to be appended to the licence. It is available in alternative format upon request, and may also be viewed at the following Internet site:
