Decision CRTC 99-510

  Ottawa, 25 November 1999
  Shaw Cablesystems Ltd.
Sault Ste. Marie, Heyden, Garden River and Echo Bay, Ontario – 199908232
Application processed by Public Notice CRTC 1999-157 dated 20 September 1999
  Distribution changes
  1. The Commission approves the application to amend the licence for the cable distribution undertaking serving the communities noted above, by changing the method by which the Commission authorizes the carriage of several U.S. television stations from Michigan.
  2. The Commission authorizes the distribution, at the licensee’s option, of WNMU-TV (PBS) Marquette, and WJRT-TV (ABC) Flint, as part of the basic service. The existing condition of licence authorizing the distribution of these services has therefore been deleted.
  3. In addition, the Commission authorizes the distribution, as part of the basic service, at the licensee’s option, of WPBN-TV (NBC) Traverse City, instead of WNEM-TV (NBC) Bay City, which is currently being distributed. The licensee has stated that the signal of WNEM-TV is subject to significant deterioration and fading due to weather conditions, and the replacement of it by WPBN-TV will provide an improvement in signal quality.
