Public Notice CRTC 1999-206-1

Ottawa, 24 March 2000

  Implementation of TV Policy
Correction to Appendix 1 of the notice

1.

In Public Notice CRTC 1999-206, the Commission sought comments on new conditions of licence that it proposes to introduce by way of amendments to the licences of certain conventional television undertakings. The proposed new conditions are necessary in order to implement the new television policy. They pertain to priority programming and time credits for Canadian drama, and would replace existing conditions relating either to expenditures on or the exhibition of Canadian programming. The Commission indicated that the proposed new conditions would take effect on 1 September 2000.

2.

In Appendix 1 of the notice, the Commission listed the stations owned by various multi-station ownership groups and identified the existing conditions of licence that it proposes to replace.

3.

The Commission notes that CHCH-TV Hamilton and CFCF- TV Montréal were inadvertently excluded from the list of stations identified in Appendix 1 as falling within the WIC Western International Communications Ltd. multi-station ownership group. The Commission corrects this error by confirming its proposal to amend the conditions of licence pertaining, in the case of both stations, to expenditures on Canadian programming (Option "A", as set out in Public Notice CRTC 1995-203).

4.

The Commission notes that the licence terms of these stations run from 1 September 1995 to 31 August 2002, and that these licences may therefore be amended by the Commission on its own motion, pursuant to section 9 (1) (c) of the Broadcasting Act.

5.

In light of the above, the Commission extends to 4 April 2000 the deadline for the submission of comments by the licensees of CHCH-TV and CFCF-TV, as well as by those of the television stations listed in Appendix 1 of PN 1999-206.
