The Hockey Network

 

On 24 November 2000, the Commission approved a Category 2 specialty television service to be known as The Hockey Network. The terms and conditions generally applicable to Category 2 services are set out in the public notice accompanying this and other decisions released today.

 

Conditions of licence

 

The licence, when issued, will expire 31 August 2007 and will be subject to the following conditions as well as to those set out in both Public Notice CRTC 2000-171 andin the licence to be issued.

 

Nature of service

 

a) The licensee shall provide a national English-language Category 2 specialty television service devoted to the game of hockey. Programming will include occasional event broadcasting, hockey news, the business of hockey, information, instruction and hockey documentaries, comment and controversy, interviews and fan forums, training and conditioning, roller hockey, beach hockey and celebrity golf tournaments.

 

b) The programming must be drawn exclusively from the following categories, as set out in Schedule I to the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990:
2a, 2b, 5b, 6a, 6b, 12, 13 and 14.

 

c) No more than 5% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast year shall be dedicated to coverage of live NHL hockey games.

 

Definitions

 

Broadcast day refers to the 24-hour period beginning 6 a.m. each day.
