Decision CRTC 2000-94

Ottawa, 12 April 2000
Les Chaînes Télé-Astral inc. and Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting Inc., partners in a general partnership
Across Canada
– 199918002 – 199918017
6 March 2000 Public Hearing
in Moncton
Acquisition of assets

1.

The Commission approves the applications by Les Chaînes Télé-Astral (Astral) and Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting Inc. (Alliance Atlantis), partners in a general partnership, to acquire the assets of the specialty programming undertakings Séries+ (formerly Canal Fiction) and Historia (formerly Canal Histoire) and to carry on the operation of these undertakings.

2.

The licences for Séries+ and Historia are currently held by a corporation whose sole shareholders, Astral and Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc., each hold 50% of the shares. Astral and Alliance Atlantis (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.) propose to enter into a general partnership to be established in accordance with the laws of the Province of Quebec. The partnership agreement specifies that Astral and Alliance Atlantis will each hold 50% of the interests in the partnership. These applications therefore seek to modify the authorized legal status of the two services .
