Public Notice CRTC 2000-49

Ottawa, 29 March 2000
The Commission has received the following application:
WESTERN CANADA AND TERRITORIES REGION / RÉGION DE L'OUEST DU CANADA ET TERRITOIRES

1.

FORT ST. JAMES, British Columbia
Application (199803127) by FORT ST. JAMES TELEVISION SOCIETY, P.O. Box 1536, Fort St. James, British Columbia, V0J 1P0.
The licensee proposes to make a variety of changes to the television services available from the (radiocommunication) distribution undertaking serving Fort St. James. The changes are as follows:
a) the deletion of the following non-encrypted television programming services:
- WJBK-TV                   (CBS)                Detroit, Michigan
- WDIV                          (NBC)                Detroit, Michigan
- WGN-TV                     (IND)                  Chicago, Illinois
- MuchMusic
b) the addition of the following non-encrypted television programming services:
 - KIRO-TV                      (IND)                 Seattle, Washington
 - KING-TV                      (NBC)               Seattle, Washington
 - The Discovery Channel
 - Community programming (Alpha-numeric)/Programmation communautaire                 (alpha-numérique)
c) the addition of a new transmitter to be located approximately 5.45 kilometers northeast of the presently authorized site. The new transmitter will distribute the following eight new non-encrypted television programming services:
 - Open Learning Agency (Knowledge Network)
 - The Discovery Channel
 - CBC Northern Television Service/Service du Nord de la SRC
 - The Sports Network (TSN)
 - CKVU-TV           (IND)             Vancouver, British Columbia/(Colombie-Britannique)
 - CHAN-TV           (CTV)            Vancouver, British Columbia/(Colombie-Britannique)
 - KIRO-TV             (IND)             Seattle, Washington
 - KING-TV             (NBC)            Seattle, Washington
These eight new services will be distributed on channels 46, 50, 52, 54, 60, 62, 66 and 68, each with a transmitter power of 20 watts.
The licensee indicates that the new transmitter site will provide better quality signals to the Fort St. James area with the possible exception of a shadow area near Stone’s Bay. That area may be best served by the transmitter at the presently authorized site.
It is the licensee's intention to delete the presently authorized transmitter if the shadow area near Stone’s Bay can receive good quality signals from the proposed transmitter.
The above-noted changes will require amendments to Fort St. James Television Societys' licence.
