Order CRTC 2001-287

Ottawa, 11 April 2001

Revised rates for province-wide 9-1-1 service

Reference: Bell Canada TN 6541, MTS TN 439, NBTel TN 854 and TCI TN 321

The Commission approves on a final basis revised province-wide 9-1-1 rates.

1.

In Revised rates for provincial E9-1-1 service, Order CRTC 2000-1186, dated 22 December 2000, the Commission approved on an interim basis revised 9-1-1 rates for 2001 for Bell Canada, MTS Communications Inc., NBTel Inc. and TELUS Communications Inc. (the companies), effective 1 January 2001.

2.

The companies recalculated their rates pursuant to the directives set out in 9-1-1 service - Rates for wireless service providers, Centrex customers and multi-line customers/manual access to the automatic location identification database, Telecom Decision CRTC 99-17, dated 29 October 1999, and Rates modified for province-wide 9-1-1 service, Order CRTC 2000-630, dated 6 July 2000.

3.

The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) submitted that it would be satisfied with the Commission granting final approval to the revised rates provided that the companies could demonstrate that up-to-date working wireless telephone number counts were used in the recalculation. The CWTA also noted that TELUS Communications (B.C.) Inc. (TCBC) and Island Telecom Inc. did not file revised rates.

4.

The Commission notes that TCBC's 9-1-1 rate was not altered by the recalculation.

5.

The Commission further notes that Decision 99-17 and Order 2000-630 do not apply to Island Tel.

6.

The Commission is satisfied that the companies recalculated their 9-1-1 rates in accordance with the formula set out in Order 2000-630, which required the use of September 2000 number counts.

7.

In light of the above, the Commission approves the companies' revised 9-1-1 rates for 2001 on a final basis.
