Telecom Decision CRTC 2002-18

Ottawa, 10 April 2002

Revision requested to Canadian numbering plan area relief planning guidelines

Reference: 8698-C12-18/01

1.

The Canadian Steering Committee on Numbering (CSCN), a working group of the CRTC Interconnection Steering Committee (CISC), has requested a minor revision to section 7.2 of the Canadian [Numbering Plan Area] NPA Relief Planning Guidelines (the guidelines) in order to emphasize the need to provide clear information to the public during the relief process.

2.

The CSCN proposed replacing "This", the first word in the second-last sentence of the third paragraph in section 7.2, with "A". The revised sentence would provide as follows:

A standard network announcement shall also be introduced on calls dialed using 7 digits that originate in any exchanges within adjacent NPAs that have local calling to the NPA(s) undergoing relief.

3.

The Commission considers that the proposed revision is appropriate, in that it leaves no doubt as to the content of the network announcement that is to be used.

4.

The revision takes effect as of the date of this decision. A revised version of the guidelines will be posted to the CRTC web site.
