COMMISSION INTERROGATORY DATED 20 SEPTEMBER 2002
201 Refer to the company's letter to the Commission dated 26 August 2002, Appendix 1, page 4 of 4, where the company provided the net financial impact on it of its recent work stoppage. Provide:
- for each of Corporate, Customer Services, Finance and Network, a detailed breakdown of the amounts shown under the heading "Bargaining Unit Labour Savings" (the response should also indicate whether the amounts shown relate to salaries only or do they reflect operational savings that the company would have realized during its work stoppage; if these amounts relate to salaries only, provide the company's estimate, with supporting documentation, of any operational savings that the company realized during the work stoppage). State all assumptions;
- for each of the categories shown under the heading "Work Stoppage Costs", a detailed breakdown of the amounts shown. The response should include the associated hours and salary rates used to calculate the amount shown for "Management Overtime"; and
- with reference to the responses to interrogatories NWTel(CRTC)01Mar02-15, Attachment 1 and NWTel(CRTC)10May02-114, a breakdown of the company's original estimate of salary expense for 2002 of $35.9 million between management and non-management. The non-management amount should be further broken down to show the original estimated salary amount associated with the employees affected by the company's work stoppage. State all assumptions.
202Refer to the company's letter to the Commission dated 26 August 2002, Appendix 1, page 3 of 4, where the company indicated that another impact of the work stoppage is that its key productivity initiatives have been delayed, and that the company was attempting to achieve savings elsewhere in order to minimize the impact on the 2002 results. Provide:
a) for each of the productivity initiatives set out in the above-noted reference, a detailed description of the initiative, and the company's original estimate of its impact on the company's overall level of productivity. The response should include the current status of these initiatives, and the expected timetable for full implementation;
b) the specific progress that the company has made to "achieve savings elsewhere to minimize the impact on the 2002 results"; and
c) the company's estimate of the impact of the work stoppage on its overall productivity level for 2002, as originally envisaged by the company in its submission and the response to interrogatory NWTel(CRTC)01Mar02-16 dated 12 April 2002. State all assumptions.
