Telecom Order CRTC 2002-404

Ottawa, 11 October 2002

Société en commandite Télébec

Reference: Tariff Notice 281

Semi-Public Telephone Service

1.

The Commission received an application by Société en commandite Télébec (Télébec), dated 14 June 2002, to withdraw item 2.12, Semi-Public Telephone Service from its General Tariff.

2.

Télébec noted that there had not been any demand for the service since 1999. Additionally, Télébec indicated that it did not anticipate any further demand for the service.

3.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

4.

In Telecom Decision CRTC 2002-43, Implementation of price regulation for Télébec and TELUS Québec, 31 July 2002, the Commission determined, among other things, that Télébec's public and semi-public pay telephone services should be assigned to a separate basket and rates for these services should remain at current levels until the Commission considers policy issues related to pay telephone service in a forthcoming proceeding.

5.

The Commission is of the view that Télébec's proposal to withdraw Semi-Public Telephone Service from its General Tariff is premature until the Commission has undertaken its policy review of pay telephone service.

6.

Accordingly, the Commission denies Télébec's application.
