Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2003-438

  Ottawa, 3 September 2003
  O.K. Radio Group Ltd.
Tar Island, Alberta
  Application 2003-0722-4

CJOK-FM-1 Tar Island - Technical change

1.

The Commission approves the application by O.K. Radio Group Ltd. to change the authorized contours of CJOK-FM-1 Tar Island.

2.

The licensee indicated that the proposed change is a result of the relocation of the transmitter CJOK-FM-1 to a location approximately 7 kilometres southeast of the existing site, and of an increase of the effective antenna height above average terrain (EHAAT) from 56 metres to 59 metres. The licensee indicated that the current transmitter location does not adequately cover the current open-pit mining operation.

3.

The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

4.

The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
