Telecom Order CRTC 2004-90

  Ottawa, 18 March 2004

TELUS Communications Inc.

  Reference: Tariff Notice 132

Local calling area expansion

1.

The Commission received an application by TELUS Communications Inc. (TCI), dated 12 December 2003, to introduce General Tariff item 209, Local Calling Area (LCA) Expansion, in order to provide for the terms and conditions associated with government requests to expand LCAs in Alberta and British Columbia.

2.

TCI submitted that the terms and conditions are based on processes stipulated in Framework for the expansion of local calling areas, Telecom Decision CRTC 2002-56, 12 September 2002, as amended by Follow-up proceeding to Telecom Decision CRTC 2002-56 - Foregone toll revenue compensation for expanded local calling areas, Telecom Decision CRTC 2003-27, 7 May 2003, and Microcell Telecommunications Inc. - Application to review and vary Telecom Decision CRTC 2002-56, Telecom Decision 2003-28, 7 May 2003.

3.

TCI proposed to assign the LCA expansion tariff to the uncapped services basket consistent with the price cap treatment of the existing comparable extended area service tariff in Alberta.

4.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

5.

The Commission approves TCI's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.
