Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2005-50

News/Talk FM station in Moncton - Technical change

1.

The Commission approves the application by Rogers Broadcasting Limited (Rogers) to change the authorized contours of the radio programming undertaking authorized in News/Talk commercial FM radio station in Moncton, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2004-517, 26 November 2004, by increasing the average effective radiated power from 40,300 watts to an effective radiated power of 70,000 watts, by decreasing the antenna height, and by relocating the transmitter.

2.

Rogers indicated that, when it initially applied for a licence to serve Moncton, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) could only offer to share the use of its television transmitter tower at Caledonia, which is a considerable distance from the centre of Moncton. The licensee stated that the CBC has since received approval to rebuild its radio transmitter tower on Lutes Mountain, and that Rogers would be able to locate its transmitter at the Lutes Mountain site. Rogers indicated that the changes would improve both the coverage and signal quality throughout the Greater Moncton area.

3.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

4.

The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
