Re: Request for Confidentiality by 6166954 Canada Inc. (616) Shaw Communications Inc. and Star Choice Communications Inc. with respect to an application pursuant to Sections 9, 20 and 40 of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations (BD Regs)

The Commission has received abridged documentation from both parties. The Commission's practice is to place all the submissions related to this file on the public record, which includes the Commission's Internet site. Given that hard copy documents are scanned before being placed on the site, the Commission prefers electronic versions wherever possible. In terms of hard copy versions of abridged documents (and electronic versions for that matter), it is suggested that the parties indicate the section in the document to be abridged with an icon (e.g. ##) and leave the section of the text or a number, whichever may be the case, blank.

In the future, an abridged and an unabridged document should be filed at the same time as is submitted the request for confidentiality and its supporting rationale. Until the Commission makes its determination on the request, the abridged version will be placed on the public record, including on the Commission's website.

Consequently, the Commission would recommend that both Star Choice and Shaw resubmit their respective abridged documents in a format which is more appropriate for placement on the public record. If Shaw and Star Choice decide not to resubmit this documentation, the Commission will then place the existing abridged documentation on its website early next week. Resubmissions of these documents are requested for end of day.

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Millington
