Commission's analysis and determination

3.

In Review of the Commercial Radio Policy, Broadcasting Notice of Public Hearing CRTC 2006-1, 13 January 2006, the Commission called for comments with respect to a review of its Commercial Radio Policy.1 This call for comments addressed, among other topics, changes to the Transitional Digital Radio Policy.2

4.

In Transitional digital radio programming undertakings, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2006-262, 23 June 2006 (Decision 2006-262), the Commission administratively renewed the broadcasting licences for a number of transitional digital radio programming undertakings across Canada, from 1 September 2006 to 31 August 2007. This extension will permit the Commission to consider the renewal of these undertakings in light of any amendments to the Transitional Digital Radio Policy.

5.

In Decision 2006-262, the Commission noted that a number of these undertakings had not yet commenced operations and accordingly, extended the existing deadlines to commence operations to 31 August 2007.

6.

Consistent with that decision, the Commission approves the application by Sur Sagar Radio Inc. to amend the broadcasting licence for the transitional digital radio programming undertaking at Toronto to extend, to 31 August 2007, the deadline by which the operation of this undertaking must commence. The condition of licence is as follows:

14. The undertaking must be operational at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 31 August 2007.

Issuance of the licence

7.

The licence for this undertaking will be issued once the applicant has informed the Commission in writing that it is prepared to commence operations.
