Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2006-554

  Ottawa, 26 September 2006
  Bell Canada
Montréal and surrounding areas, Quebec
  Application 2006-0925-8
Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2006-99
3 August 2006

Application for relief from section 17(1)(c) of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations

1.

The Commission approves the application by Bell Canada to amend the regional broadcasting licence for its Class 1 cable broadcasting distribution undertaking serving Montréal and surrounding areas, in order to be relieved, by condition of licence, of the requirement under section 17(1)(c) of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations, to distribute the programming services of local television stations CHLT-TV (TVA) Sherbrooke, Quebec and CJOH-TV-8 (CTV) Cornwall, Ontario.

2.

The licensee distributes, as part of its basic service, the programming services of local television stations CFTM-TV (TVA) and CFCF-TV (CTV) Montréal. It submitted that it is operationally inefficient and of no benefit to its subscribers to offer what are essentially duplicate priority programming services from the same network sources.

3.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
