CJMM-FM Rouyn-Noranda and its transmitter CJMM-FM-1 La Sarre – Technical change

1. The Commission approves the application by Astral Media Radio Inc. to amend the broadcasting licence for the French-language radio programming undertaking CJMM-FM Rouyn-Noranda in order to change the authorized contours of its transmitter CJMM-FM-1 La Sarre by increasing the effective radiated power (ERP) from 349 watts to 1,904 watts. All other technical parameters remain unchanged. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
2. The licensee indicated that the current ERP of CJMM-FM-1 is inferior to that of other competitive FM radio stations serving La Sarre. Furthermore, the licensee wishes to improve the quality of its signal and include surrounding communities.
3. The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
4. The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
