Re: CAB Violence Code – revised title

Dear Mr. Cohen:

Thank you for your letter of 13 August 2008 concerning your request for Commission approval to change the title of the Voluntary Code Regarding Violence in Television Programming to the CAB Violence Code.

As explained in your letter, the purpose of this change is to enhance broad public understanding of the fact that the standards set out in this industry code are obligatory regulatory requirements adhered to by all television programming undertakings via conditions of licence, rather than voluntary guidelines, as the code's original title suggests. Efforts by self-regulatory bodies such as the CBSC to enhance clarity with respect to broadcasters' commitments and obligations, for the benefit of all interested Canadians, are welcomed and encouraged by the Commission. Therefore, your request is approved.

As of the date of this letter, the Commission will strive to ensure that all references to the code reflect this new title in its decisions and all other documents.

Sincerely,

Original signed by:
Robert A. Morin
