Re: Unresolved issues related to the accessibility of telecommunications and broadcasting services for persons with disabilities, Broadcasting Notices of Public Hearing CRTC 2008-8 and 2008-8-1 and Telecom Public Notices CRTC 2008-8 and 2008-8-1

  NOTICE TO APPEAR AT A PUBLIC HEARING

Your comments regarding the above-mentioned public proceeding and your request to appear at the public consultation have been received at the Commission.   Your request to appear at the consultation has been granted.   The public hearing will commence on 17 November 2008 .

Please note that:

  • Presenters will be advised shortly after 26 September 2008 of the specific amount of time allotted for their presentation.   Questions from the panel members may follow the presentation.
  • Due to the nature of this proceeding and in order to respect the needs of the participants, the schedule for the Hearing must be adhered to.   Parties should monitor the progress of the proceeding so they are aware of any Commission directives and are ready to make their presentation at the appropriate time.
  • The Panel Members sitting at the hearing will have reviewed all written submissions.   Consequently, parties are requested to highlight what are considered the most important points of their submission. Consistent with the principles of procedural fairness, to avoid prejudice to other parties, presenters are not to raise new issues at the hearing.
  • The Commission has posted on its website a document entitled General information about the CRTC and Guide to Costs Applications for the Accessibility Proceeding (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/public/partvii/2008/8665/c12_ 200807943/ guide_e.htm).   This document provides some general information about the CRTC as well as specific information about applications for costs in this proceeding.

Please be advised that, as per paragraph 26 of Notice 2008-8, the Commission will issue a letter, by Friday 26 September 2008 , to those participants whose request to appear at the public consultation has been granted, outlining the organization and conduct of the public consultation such as order of appearance, time allotted for presentations, and the responsibilities of the presenters.
