CRTC Interconnection Steering Committee – Wireless Phase II E9-1-1 service consensus reports

  File number: 8621-C12-01/08

1.

On 8 May 2009, the Emergency Services Working Group (ESWG) of the CRTC Interconnection Steering Committee (CISC) submitted the following consensus reports to the CISC Steering Committee:

  • Wireless E9-1-1 Phase 2 Stage 1 Technical Specification Recommendation (ESRE0047) Version 1.4, 8 May 2009

  • Rollout Schedule for Wireless Phase II Stage 1 E9-1-1 Implementation (ESRE0048a), 1 May 2009

2.

In those reports, the ESWG proposed technical specifications and rollout schedules for wireless service providers in order to implement wireless Phase II enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) service in Canada.

3.

On 14 May 2009, the CISC Steering Committee approved the consensus reports and subsequently referred them to the Commission for consideration.

4.

In Implementation of wireless Phase II E9-1-1 service, Telecom Regulatory Policy CRTC 2009-40, 2 February 2009, the Commission imposed a 1 February 2010 deadline to complete the rollout of wireless Phase II E9-1-1 service. The Commission notes that in report ESRE0048a, TELUS Communications Company (TCC) indicated that it would request an extension to allow the company to complete its rollout.

5.

The Commission notes that on 1 May 2009, TCC submitted its request for an extension. In a letter dated 19 May 2009, the Commission denied TCC's request and directed the company to file a revised rollout schedule with the Commission and the ESWG to comply with the 1 February 2010 deadline. TCC has filed a revised schedule in compliance with the deadline.

6.

The consensus reports are available on the Commission's website at www.crtc.gc.ca.

7.

The Commission has reviewed and approves the above-noted consensus reports.
