Telecommunications Fees

1.

The Telecommunications Fees Regulations, 1995 (Fees Regulations) provide for the payment of annual telecommunications fees by certain Canadian carriers, as defined under subsection 3(1) of the Fees Regulations.

2.

Pursuant to subsection 4(3) of the Fees Regulations, the Commission hereby announces in this public notice that the estimated total telecommunications regulatory costs of the Commission for fiscal year 2009-2010 are $25.071 million.

3.

The annual adjustment amount referred to in subsection 4(5) of the Fees Regulations is $5.966 million for fiscal year 2008-2009. Of this total, $4.957 million pertains to the recovery of a temporary increase in the Commission's budget approved by Treasury Board for fiscal year 2008-2009. Notification of this temporary increase was provided in

  • Notification of a temporary increase to CRTC Part I Broadcasting Licence Fees and Telecommunications Fees, Telecom Circular CRTC 2007-18, 21 December 2007;

  • letters sent to all CRTC telecommunications fees payers on 30 May 2008; and

  • Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission 2008-2009 Estimates - Part III - Report on Plans and Priorities.
  The balance of this adjustment ($1.009 million) recovers increases in salary (i.e. for items included in ratified collective agreements, employee benefits and insurance plans) and accommodation-related costs.

4.

The total amount to be recovered by the Commission for fiscal year 2009-2010, taking into account the adjustment in paragraph 3 above, is $31.037 million.
