Application 2011-0029-7, received 12 January 2011

CIDG-FM Ottawa – Technical change

1.      The Commission approves the application by Torres Media Ottawa Inc. (Torres) to change the authorized contours of the English-language commercial radio programming undertaking CIDG-FM Ottawa, by increasing the effective radiated power (ERP) from 934 to 1,793 watts (maximum ERP from 4,500 to 5,500 watts with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 98 metres). The Commission received interventions in support of this application.

2.      Torres requested this technical change in response to listener complaints of weak or inconsistent signal reception in the Ottawa/Gatineau region.

3.      The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

4.      The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this change will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
