Route reference: Part 1 applications posted on 18 April 2012

Ottawa, 28 June 2012

RNC MÉDIA Inc.
Gatineau, Rouyn-Noranda and Val d’Or, Quebec

Applications 2012-0453-6 and 2012-0454-4

CFGS-DT Gatineau, CFVS-DT-1 Rouyn-Noranda and CFVS-DT Val d’Or – Licence amendments related to coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games

1.      The Commission approves the applications by RNC MÉDIA Inc. (RNC MÉDIA) to amend the broadcasting licences of its French-language television programming undertakings CFGS-DT Gatineau and CFVS-DT Val d’Or and its transmitter CFVS-DT-1 Rouyn-Noranda in order to be relieved from the requirement of condition of licence 1 of the licences of these undertakings for the period from 27 July to 12 August 2012 inclusively. This condition of licence requires the licensee to broadcast no less than 1 hour and 15 minutes of local programming in each broadcast week. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with these applications.

2.      RNC MÉDIA explained that the above-noted stations are V network affiliates and that the network will not have any openings in its schedule for local programming during the broadcast of the London Olympic Games, from 27 July to 12 August 2012 inclusively. RNC MÉDIA stated, however, that on average it expects to exceed its local programming requirements for the 2011-2012 broadcast year, as it did for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 broadcast years.

3.      To implement this relief, the Commission adds the following condition to each of the broadcasting licences for CFGS-DT Gatineau as well as CFVS-DT Val d’Or and its transmitter CFVS-DT-1 Rouyn-Noranda:

For the period from 27 July to 12 August 2012, inclusively, the licensee is relieved of the requirements set out in conditions of licence 1 of Appendices 3 and 4 of Licence renewals, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2009-530, 27 August 2009.

4.      The Commission notes that the licensee intends to exceed, on average, its local programming requirements for the 2011-2012 broadcast year.
