Application 2012-0626-9

CFTF-TV Rivière-du-Loup and its transmitters – Temporary amendment of a condition of licence related to coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games

1.      The Commission approves the application by Télévision MBS inc. (Télévision MBS) to temporarily suspend the condition of licence relating to the broadcast of local programming of its French-language television programming undertaking CFTF-TV Rivière-du-Loup and its transmitters in order to relieve the station from the requirement of condition of licence 1 set out in the appendix to CFTF-TV Rivière-du-Loup and its transmitters – Licence renewal, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2009-526, 27 August 2009, for the period from 27 July to 12 August 2012, inclusively. This condition of licence requires the licensee to broadcast no less than 3 hours and 10 minutes of local programming in each broadcast week, to be allocated as follows: one hour and 35 minutes of local programming directed to the Rimouski region and surrounding area, and one hour and 35 minutes of local programming directed to Rivière-du-Loup and surrounding area, the Gaspé Peninsula and New Brunswick. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

2.      Télévision MBS explained that CFTF-TV is a V network affiliate and that the network will not have any openings in its schedule for local programming during the broadcast of the London Olympic Games over the period in question.

3.      To implement this temporary relief, the Commission adds the following condition to the broadcasting licence for CFTF-TV Rivière-du-Loup and its transmitters:

For the period from 27 July to 12 August 2012 inclusively, the licensee is relieved of the requirements set out in condition of licence 1 of the appendix to CFTF-TV Rivière-du-Loup and its transmitters – Licence renewal, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2009-526, 27 August 2009.
