CBAF-FM Moncton and its transmitter CBAF-FM-18 Lamèque - Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the technical parameters of CBAF-FM-18 Lamèque, a transmitter for the French-language radio programming undertaking CBAF-FM Moncton (ICI Radio-Canada Première). Specifically, the CBC proposed to relocate its transmission site to Grande-Anse, New Brunswick, to change the transmitter class from A to C, to change the antenna’s radiation pattern from horizontal to circular (directional antenna), to increase the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 930 to 23,000 watts (maximum ERP from 3,000 to 100,000 watts), and to increase the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 57.9 to 96.6 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
  2. The CBC indicated that the new transmission site in Grande-Anse would allow it to improve the quality of the signal on the Acadian Peninsula and to reduce antenna-related costs given that the current transmitter is located on a tower owned by Bell.
  3. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
