Renaming of DW (Amerika) as DW (Deutsch+) on the List of non-Canadian programming services and stations authorized for distribution

  1. In Broadcasting Public Notice 2004-50, the Commission approved the addition of German TV, a non-Canadian general interest German-language service consisting of news and public affairs programming, dramas, movies, soap operas, and children’s programming, to the List of non-Canadian programming services and stations authorized for distribution (the list). In Broadcasting Regulatory Policy 2013-509, the Commission noted that German TV had changed its name to DW (Amerika). The service is operated by the international broadcasting network Deutsche Welle and was jointly formed by German Public Television & Radio Association (ARD) and Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), the two major German public network broadcasters.
  2. In a letter to the Commission dated 12 January 2017, Deutsche Welle indicated that effective 6 February 2017, the service would change its name to DW (Deutsch+), and confirmed that the nature of service would remain unchanged. Accordingly, the Commission amends the list to reflect this name change. The revised list can be found on the Commission’s website at www.crtc.gc.ca and may be obtained in hard copy on request.
