Video transcript: Filing a telemarketing complaint

Have you received an unsolicited call from a telemarketer even though your telephone number is on the National Do Not Call List?

Filing a complaint is easy. But you’ll need a few pieces of information to ensure an investigation can be fully conducted:

  • The name and phone number of the telemarketing company.
  • The date the telemarketer called.
  • The telephone number on which you received the call.
  • Confirmation that the caller was selling a product or service.

Submit your complaint via the web at www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca.
By phone at 1-866-580-DNCL (3625).
Or via a TTY device at 1-888-DNCL-TTY (362-5889).

What happens then?

If the CRTC finds that a violation has occurred, it will act to bring the telemarketer into compliance.

Can I expect to be contacted by the CRTC about my complaint?

The CRTC will contact you only if it requires further information.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible for investigators to follow up with consumers on every complaint they receive.

Nor is it possible for the CRTC to comment on the status of an investigation until the matter has been completely resolved.

Rest assured, however: even if they don’t call you, CRTC investigators value the data you provide and will give every complaint their full attention.

Thanks to the National Do Not Call List, Canadians are receiving fewer unwanted telemarketing calls than ever before.
