Search Help

Search can execute simple keyword searches, and has boolean search capability. You can search using words, phrases and numbers that appear on documents and pages on our website.

The search engine will not search the following collections:

Search engine behavior

Search terms separated by spaces will give results that match all the terms in the query.

Searches are not case sensitive.

Common words like "the", "a", and "for" are usually ignored.

Word stemming occurs in some instances to provide better results. For example: a search for the word broadcaster will return search results containing the word broadcasters, broadcasting, broadcast.

Search tips

Language Select the search language from the toolbar at the top of the page. The basic search form and search results will appear in the language selected.

Using AND to make your search more specific.

Using OR to broaden your search.

Using NOT to exclude search terms from your results.

Using the asterisk * as a root word/stem/truncation search

Using brackets Keywords inside the brackets () are searched for first, followed by those outside of the brackets.

Exact phrase matching Use quotation marks "" to obtain search results for an exact term or phrase.

Search features

Did you mean?  If you enter a term not found on the Web site, the search engine will return an alternative suggestion from the document collection that may improve your search result. For example if you search for chariman, the engine will ask if you mean chairman.

Refine your results click on the roll down menu arrow to select terms to progressively narrow down your results by type, subject or year.

Save your search: If you go to the same search results often, save a search to your browser’s favourites.
