The Convergence Policy team in the Policy Development and Research (PDR) sector provides strategic research, develops policy advice, and conducts and supports hearings with respect to issues of convergence in the communications sector. These initiatives are undertaken in the context of the achievement of the Policy Objectives of the Broadcasting Act and Telecommunications Act, in an environment that is increasingly global, characterized by multi-platform delivery of content, and in which rapid technological development will shape Canadians’ requirement for access to advanced networks.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) held industry consultations regarding over-the-top programming services from November 16 to 18, 2011. A group of key external stakeholders were invited to participate.
On March 24, 2011, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) hosts round-table discussions on trends that will affect the Canadian communications industry and appropriate regulatory approaches for the future. This event is an important part of the CRTC’s ongoing evaluation of regulatory approaches for the Canadian communications industry. The discussions that come out of the event will help inform the new edition of the CRTC’s Navigating Convergence report.
