Foreword

Introduction

This report presents the summary of statistical and financial data of the television annual returns provided by conventional television stations for the broadcast year ended August 31, 2009.

Section I provides a five year comparative financial analysis for private television undertakings. Section II presents the detailed programming and production expenses for the broadcast year 2009. Section III provides a simplified three year comparative analysis of the radio and television financial data for the CBC covering the period 2006 - 2008. 2009 data for CBC is presented separately in a format similar to conventional television.

This report contains only information compiled from the annual returns of conventional television stations and does not include not-for-profit and other exempt television undertakings.

The Broadcast Analysis Group would appreciate being informed of any problems encountered with these statistics.

Data contained in this report is subject to change as the Commission receives additional or revised information.

During the broadcast year 1 September 2008 to 31 August 2009, three stations (CKSH-TV, CKTV-TV and CKTM-TV) from V Interactions inc. were sold to CBC; two stations (CJEO-TV and CJCO-TV) from Rogers Broadcasting Limited commenced operations; and CKCO-TV-3 changed status to a rebroadcaster.
