The following charts illustrate the use and scheduling of various types of recordings by commercial radio stations that program predominantly music and do not operate in the specialty format. Statistics are provided, on an hour-by-hour basis from 6 a.m. to midnight on 17, 18, and 23 April 2005, for the following markets:

For purposes of this study, the following definitions were used:
A selection that qualifies under the criteria set out in the Radio Regulations, 1986.
A recording by a new Canadian artist fulfills the following two criteria.
The Commission notes that the definition set out above was adopted for purposes of the study in order to give a broad indication of how such selections are programmed.
A Canadian selection that is more than five years old (relative to the time of broadcast).
