      <title>CRTC finds that Globalive does not meet Canadian ownership rules </title>
      <description>The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission today determined that Globalive Wireless Management (Globalive) does not meet the Canadian ownership requirements set out in the Telecommunications Act. Under the legislation, a telecommunications company is only eligible to operate in Canada if it is not at any time owned and controlled, in law and in fact, by non-Canadians.

The Commission is also requiring ISPs to inform consumers of their practices, which will help them to make more informed decisions about the Internet services they purchase and use.

      <title>10-digit local dialing and a new area code to come to northern Ontario</title>
      <description>The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today announced that effective March 12, 2011, 10-digit local dialing will be required for all local calls in the 705 area code region of northern Ontario.  The CRTC also announced that a new area code, 249, would be introduced in this region.</description>

      <title>CRTC seeks consumer input on television services</title>
      <description>At the Government of Canada’s request, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) will hold a public hearing on the implications and advisability of implementing a compensation regime for the value of local television signals. The hearing will begin on December 7, 2009, in Gatineau, Que. The CRTC is considering whether local television stations should be allowed to negotiate compensation from cable and satellite companies for their signals.</description>
