Providing Content in Canada's Official Languages

Please note that the Official Languages Act requires that government publications be available in both official languages.

In order to meet some of the requirements under this Act, the Commission's transcripts will therefore be bilingual as to their covers, the listing of CRTC members and staff attending the hearings, and the table of contents.

However, the aforementioned publication is the recorded verbatim transcript and, as such, is transcribed in either of the official languages, depending on the language spoken by the participant at the hearing.

--- Opening of Public Hearing at 9:00 A.M.

CHAIR: Order please, à l'ordre s'il vous plaît.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this public hearing of the Commission.  With me on the panel are my colleagues, Michel Arpin and Joan Pennefather.  I should emphasize that matters that form part of the agenda will be given full consideration by the hearing panel and decisions will be released in due course after consultation with the Commission.  Ms. Secretary, which are the items on the agenda for today?

            SECRETARY:  Thank you, Madam Chair.

On 19 and 26 October 2006 and on 12 December 2006, the Commission published Broadcasting Notices of Public Hearing CRTC 2006-11, 2006-11-1 and 2006-11-2 indicating that 18 applications would be considered today.

The items on the agenda of today's public hearing are all non-appearing items.

The Commission has received interventions for some of the applications and they have been placed on the public file for this public hearing.

            Thank you, Madam Chair.

CHAIR:                                   Any questions from the panel members?

MR. ARPIN:                           No questions, Madam Chair.

MS. PENNEFATHER           No questions, Madam Chair.

CHAIR:  Thank you, Ms. Secretary.  I should point out that further to the Notices of Public Hearing, some parties have requested to appear at these proceedings but the panel has decided not to make them or any other party appear at this public hearing.  This, therefore, concludes today's public hearing.  I wish to thank my colleagues and Legal Counsel for their assistance.  The hearing is now adjourned.

            SECRETARY:    Thank you, Madam Chair.

--- The hearing adjourned at 9:15 A.M.
