Decision CRTC 88-291

London Broadcasters Limited

London, Ontario - 873446900
Following a Public Hearing in Toronto on 1 February 1988, the Commission renews the broadcasting licence for CKSL London from 1 October 1988 to 31 August 1991, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued. This term will enable the Commission to consider the renewal of this licence at the same time as that of other radio undertakings in the region.
The Commission reaffirms the particular importance it attaches to the development of Canadian talent and notes that the licensee has allocated $15,000 per year to cover fees and expenses for "Concerts in Victoria Park" featuring Canadian groups. The Commission encourages the licensee to continue these efforts during the licence term and to develop new initiatives for the support, development and on-air exposure of local and regional talent.
It is a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to the CAB self-regulatory guidelines on sex-role stereotyping, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
The Commission acknowledges the interventions from the London Chamber of Commerce, S.L. Centre Holdings Inc. and Orchestra London Canada in support of this licence renewal.
In a related decision issued today, the Commission has denied an application by Telemedia Communications Ontario Inc. (873682900) to acquire the assets of CKSL from London Broadcasters Limited and for a broadcasting licence to continue the operation of this undertaking (Decision CRTC 88-290).
