Decision

Ottawa, 16 April 1993
Decision CRTC 93-118
Newcap Broadcasting Limited
Gander and Musgravetown, Newfoundland - 920813300
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1992-84 dated 11 December 1992, the Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking consisting of CKXD Gander and its transmitter CKXB Musgravetown from 1 September 1993 to 31 August 1998, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.
This term will enable the Commission to consider the renewal of this licence at the same time as that of other radio stations in the area.
The Commission reaffirms the particular importance it attaches to the development of Canadian talent and is satisfied with the licensee's proposals in this respect.
It is a condition of licence that the licensee implement the authority granted in Decision CRTC 91-120, dated 13 March 1991, to increase the power of CKXD from 1,000 watts to 5,000 watts, within the next twelve months or apply to the Commission and the Department of Communications to maintain the actual technical parameters.
Consistent with Decision CRTC 89-490, dated 19 July 1989, it is also a condition of licence
that, at a minimum, the current hours of locally-originated programming be maintained throughout the licence term. The weekly amount of locally-originated programming required under the licence condition is 25 hours at Gander.
