Telecom Order

Ottawa, 24 October 1995
Telecom Order CRTC 95-1142
IN THE MATTER OF an application by The Island Telephone Company Limited (Island Tel) under Tariff Notice 362 dated 8 December 1994 for revisions related to the company's General Tariff Items 270 and 280 pertaining to the incorporation of Touch Tone service into basic exchange service.
WHEREAS Island Tel proposed to phase out the Touch Tone differential in two approximately equal steps;
WHEREAS Island Tel submitted that its application was consistent with previous Commission Orders;
WHEREAS by Telecom Order CRTC 94-1483, dated 22 December 1994, the Commission approved Tariff Notice 362 on an interim basis;
WHEREAS by Telecom Public Notice CRTC 95-1, dated 13 January 1995, the Commission invited comments from interested parties;
WHEREAS the Commission notes that it has stated in numerous Orders issued since 1992 that, as a general policy objective, it considers it appropriate for telephone companies to move towards standardizing Touch Tone service and incorporating it into basic service for all customers;
WHEREAS the Commission considers that, given the overall revenue/cost relationship of local services, approaches to standardizing Touch Tone service should not involve reduction in the current Touch Tone rates and that the process should be gradual in order to minimize the disruption for customers using rotary dial service;
WHEREAS the Commission considers that the filing by Island Tel meets the policy objectives of the Commission; and
WHEREAS the Commission received no comments with respect to this application -
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT:
The proposed tariff revisions submitted by Island Tel under Tariff Notice 362 are approved on a final basis.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
