Telecom Public Notice CRTC 96-10

BELL CANADA AND BC TEL - INTRODUCTION OF REVISED CONDITIONS FOR UNSOLICITED LIVE VOICE AND FACSIMILE CALLS FOR THE PURPOSE OF SOLICITATION

 References:

Bell Canada Tariff Notice 5685 and 5685A

 BC TEL Tariff Notice 3444

The Commission has received applications from Bell Canada (Bell), dated 29 January 1996 and BC TEL, dated 14 February 1996 for approval of tariff revisions that provide for restrictions on the transmission of unsolicited facsimile messages for the purpose of solicitation during certain calling hours. In addition, the companies propose revisions to the "do not call" provisions, in their tariffs, as they apply to the calling lists of organizations and persons engaged in unsolicited live voice and facsimile calls for the purpose of solicitation.

Bell and BC TEL propose that the transmission of unsolicited facsimile messages for the purpose of solicitation be restricted to the hours between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, Bell and BC TEL propose that the current time-frame in which telemarketers must remove a customer's name and telephone number from their calling lists be reduced from 30 to 7 calendar days following a customer's request.

The Commission has addressed interrogatories to Bell and BC TEL regarding their applications. Answers to these interrogatories are to be filed by 6 May 1996.
