Subject: Request for clarification regarding The Path Forward – Defining “Canadian program” and supporting the creation and distribution of Canadian programming in the audio-visual sector, Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2024-288, 15 November 2024
Dear Rod Butler,
Thank you for your letter dated 10 January 2025 filed on behalf of the Canada Media Fund (CMF) regarding Broadcasting Notice of Consultation 2024-288 - The Path Forward - Defining “Canadian program” and supporting the creation and distribution of Canadian programming in the audiovisual sector (NoC 2024-288).
In your letter, you shared your intention to submit an original English-language intervention accompanied by a version translated in French. You anticipate that the French translation will be 20% longer than the page limit set out in NoC 2024-288 and you request that the page limit for the translated version be expanded to 24 pages, not including appendices nor the summary.
Intervenors may submit their submission in the official language of their choice, provided that it adheres to the 20-page limit. CRTC staff recognizes your commitment to submitting your interventions in both official languages. We note that neither the NoC 2024-288 nor the Commission’s Rules of Procedure set any specific instructions for the submission of the translated version of submissions. Commission staff recognizes the realities specific to the French language. As such, provided that the original submission complies with the 20-page limit, staff considers it reasonable that the entirety of the submission should be translated.
Yours sincerely,
(Original signed by)
