Subject: Part 1 application filed by the Canadian Media Producers Association regarding the imposition of conditions of service for certain discretionary services operated by Rogers Sports & Media Inc.
Dear Patrick Smith,
Thank you for your application dated 7 March 2025 in which you requested that the Commission immediately impose conditions of service on certain discretionary services currently operated as exempt services by Rogers Sports & Media Inc. (Rogers).
The Commission notes that Rogers was eligible to commence operations of those discretionary services under the Exemption order respecting discretionary television programming undertakings serving fewer than 200,000 subscribers, Broadcasting Order CRTC 2023-307, 5 September 2023 (the Exemption Order). Consistent with the requirements of the Exemption Order, Rogers has filed applications for new licences given that the services in question have surpassed the 210,000-subscriber threshold for three consecutive months.
Today, the Commission has published Notice of hearing, Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2025-153, 19 June 2025 and has added Rogers’ applications to the list of applications to be considered at that hearing. The Commission welcomes your participation in that proceeding.
For these reasons, the Commission dismisses your application.
If you have any questions, please contact Scott Shortliffe, Vice-President, Broadcasting, at scott.shortliffe@crtc.gc.ca.
Sincerely,
Marc Morin
Secretary General
