Subject: Improving the routing of 9-8-8 calls and texts, Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2025-20 – Procedural request
Mr. Beatty,
This is in response to your two letters dated 25 April 2025 on behalf of the Deaf Wireless Canada Consultative Committee (DWCC) requesting that the Commission amend its procedure in the proceeding initiated by Improving the routing of 9-8-8 calls and texts, Telecom Notice of Consultation 2025-20, 27 January 2025. Specifically, the DWCC requested that the Commission:
- allow the DWCC to submit a public petition document and three videos to the record of Telecom Notice of Consultation 2025-20 on 9 May 2025.
- extend the deadline to file its cost application until 12 May 2025.
You note that these requests are necessary to fulfill the accessibility lens principle outlined in the 2023 Policy Direction and Accessible Canada Act.
In order to allow other parties to provide their views on whether to grant these extensions, Commission staff establishes the following procedure:
- Parties may respond to the procedural request by 20 May 2025 serving all parties to the proceeding.
- DWCC may reply to any responses by 27 May 2025.
To ensure an expeditious process, DWCC should file the additional information on 9 May 2025, and the cost application on 12 May as proposed. The Commission will consider the procedural requests, including comments and replies received with respect to them, at later date.
